Showcase '96 #11: Brain in Vain
Brainiac 5 walks, distractedly, around a STAR Labs security post looking for equipment better than their Metropolis HQ; while causing panic in the control room. Unable to see him properly due to his forcefield, they turn on the automated defences, which he completely ignores. What he doesn't ignore, however, is the sight of the apparently-comatose original Brainiac (B1), his own great-great-grandfather, in a small cell.
Scanning him, he confirms this, then notes that his mental functions are off the scale his Omnicom can read. Thinking B1 may produce a way home, B5 investigates something B1's mental functions are seemingly linked to, and discovers Coluian technology he doesn't recognise, but thinks is 30th Century.
