Background
The Captains Marvel had been seriously injured in a car accident, their lightning accidently stolen by the reluctant villainess Chain Lightning, whose evil alternate personalities had been set free by the events...
Power of Shazam! #43: Children of Thunder
Travelling to the Rock of Eternity to get Ibis the Invincible's help in healing the Marvels, "Uncle" Dudley and Tawky Tawny find him weak and withered. Talking in riddles, he shows them a future, one where Captain Marvel replaced Shazam and empowered Thunder. Dudley and Tawky suggest time-travelling to see if they survive, but Ibis orders them not to, and instead to look for the Marvel's Mother Boxes.
Power of Shazam! #44: A Child Of Thunder, A Child of Hate
Tawky and Dudley, after days of searching following their talk with Ibis, found the Mother Boxes, but when they arrive at the Rock of Eternity they find Ibis' wife, Taia, had just returned Ibis to suspended animation given his condition. Despite Ibis' warning, they decide to use the Mother Boxes to locate a future Captain Marvel from the mists of time outside the Rock.
However, after Tawky finds Thunder and is on his way back with the curious 90th Century girl, Black Adam intervenes, taking her place, and Thunder falls helplessly through time...
Notes
- Thunder "crashes" into normal space in the late 30th Century in Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #110, and joins the Legion.
- The Captains Marvel, of course, recover, with Billy the last to do so, and only after Black Adam gives him his Mother Box which promptly heals him, Mary and Freddy having received less severe injuries.
