In the wake of Kid Quantum's death, Brande rages against President Chu, XS suffers a crisis of confidence, and Roderick Doyle is arrested for arranging the attempted murder of Brande, his business partner.

Synopsis
XS looks at the body of Kid Quantum and thinks about how scared she had been, how confident he had been, and how vulnerable all Legionnaires are.
Meanwhile, after her Neutral body stops Apparition from listening in, Triad-Purple opens a video link, allowing the other Legionnaires to listen secretly as R.J. Brande yells at President Chu for forcing the new members and Leviathan's leadership on the Legion. During the conversation, they discover that there is an additional Legion draftee who neglected to report for duty.
In prison, meanwhile, Saturn Girl struggles to interrogate the people who attempted to murder Brande, but ends up bouncing out, traumatised at the imagery they forced at her and muttering that they'd been programmed to resist her probes. Live Wire proceeds to throw lightning around them in turn, much to Imra's horror until she realises it caused them to drop their defences.
Later, in the Legion's temporary headquarters, XS packs her bags, believing that she's too scared to be an effective Legionnaire. While she's doing so, she is interrupted by Cosmic Boy, who tells her that only he saw her run from Tangleweb's creatures, and that he believes she'd make a good Legionnaire if she only makes the effort to confront her fears.
From his office, R. J. Brande calls Querl Dox, the missing Legion draftee, to tell him about his expected presence on Earth and promises him that he'll be supplied with a state-of-the-art laboratory to suit his needs, to which Marla Latham recoils in horror, remembering the outlay needed when Dox worked for Brande. Brande merely chuckles in return, and observes that the U.P. wanted him, so they pay for him.
Elsewhere in the building, Roderick Doyle complains, irritated, that he does all Brande's work for him - until a news report broadcasting his guilt in Brande's assassination attempt, prompted by Saturn Girl's mind probe, panics him into attempting to run. Invisible Kid and Chameleon, both already in the room, ensure he doesn't get anywhere.
Later, a funeral is held for Kid Quantum, but while Cosmic Boy is delivering a eulogy, XS sees everyone suddenly slow down and stop moving. She realizes that Kid Quantum's coffin is exploding, and that his belt is causing time to move slowly for everyone around her, but that her super-speed powers are enabling her to move normally. She rushes to save everyone in the coffin-bomb's range and succeeds, and is praised by Cosmic Boy for her actions, giving her enough confidence to stick around... for now.
On the planet Angtu, toxic vapors hang in the air as the one survivor of a chemical-weapon war, Mano, weeps for his brethren. He curses the fact that they listened to Leland McCauley, who sold them the weapons, rather than to him, who begged them not to buy them, and decides to use his powerful hand to destroy the corpse-riddled planet and kill himself in the process so he wouldn't have to live with the grief. Mano does destroy the planet, but eventually wakes up to find himself alive and screams in horror.

Notes
- Preboot, Mano/Preboot did indeed destroy Angtu, but he did so to premediatively murder everyone else on the planet, as they treated him as an outcast due to his freakish hand's power. The air on Angtu was indeed toxic from chemical warfare, but the people lived with it by wearing protective suits.
