Kingdom Come Xtra was the name of a series of trading cards produced in 1996 by Skybox. There were 50 regular cards and 28 chase cards plus several promo cards in the set.

Description

The Kingdom Come Xtra set ("Xtra" because they were in the "widevision" format, 4.75 x 2.5 inches as compared to a standard 3.5 x 2.5 size) was issued after the successful Kingdom Come series. The regular cards depicted scenes from the books, while the chase cards featured (among other things) concept sketches by Alex Ross and foldout reprints of the multiple-character wraparound covers.

The set contains a mixture of new and reprinted artwork from the Kingdom Come series, all painted or pencilled by Alex Ross, with text by Ross and writer Mark Waid.

  • The Superboy card shows Ross' concept of what Superboy's costume would have looked like as a Legionnaire. There was one panel in Kingdom Come #1 that mentioned how Superboy (Kon-el) and Supergirl (the former Matrix) moved to the 30th century to stay with the Legion permanently. On the back of the card, Waid writes that he needed to get rid of Superman's heir apparent for story purposes, so Superboy went to the future with the Legion.
  • The other cards all feature Starman VIII. The Sketchboard commentary by Ross says that in his original conception this was the adult Star Boy (referring to the pre-Zero Hour incarnation), while Waid says that Ross was inspired by Star Boy's costume "but he took it to an awe-inspiring extreme." Recent events indicate that this Starman may be the adult version of the pre-Crisis Star Boy, despite conflicting information suggesting it might be the adult post-Zero Hour Star Boy. See the Starman VIII main entry for more information.
