Biography

Duped

Singularity had been the hero of Lorcus Prime, defending the planet against "alien aggressors." However, there came a time when the planet had become a utopia, and Singularity's presence did more harm than good. They then created an illusory version of Lorcus Prime on a dead world and "retired" him there, where he could save the planet without bothering them.

The arrival of the Legion on his pretend world brought an end to this. Stranded in the Second Galaxy while saving Earth and Titan from a spacial rift, they had descended into stress and infighting; and when Saturn Girl tried to calm the increasingly problematic Umbra telepathically, this illusion interfered, leaving Saturn Girl comatose, their fears and neuroses blended as a "shadow monster"... and an Umbra composed only of arrogance and cold rage. She left the Legion Outpost in an escape pod and landed on "Lorcus Prime" - and immediately got into a fight with Singularity.

When Ultra Boy and Monstress arrived, they seperated the two, but Monstress' attempts to calm him fell on deaf ears. In the meantime, Umbra clobbered Ultra Boy, but being forced to switch to invulnerability meant he could see through the illusion, and called his teammates to let them know what was happening. When they landed, Ultra Boy, Brainiac 5.1 and Chameleon discovered and disabled the illusion, while the rest of the team kept Singularity occupied.

Confronted with the facts of the matter, Singularity collapsed, but after Brainiac 5.1 explained the situation to him, he accused the Legion of destroying his homeworld, and after Brainiac pointed out that the constellations must be wrong, he flew off into space angrily accusing him of lying and swearing to find the truth.

Credo

His denial broke eventually, and for a time he "was almost grateful" - until he found the real Lorcus Prime, which had been "deleted" by the Progeny. On top of that, he discovered that the Progenitor, the creator and dictator of the Progeny, had been a member of the team which he encountered on his fake homeworld.

Raging against the Progeny, he formed a movement led by himself to wipe out the remains of the species - who had been severely weakened by the death of the Progenitor - known as the Credo. The Legion first encountered the group, though not their leader, when a small group composed of Saturn Girl, Wildfire, Invisible Kid and Spark petitioned the Kwai matriarch Enkenet to lend the Kwai's talents as guides to allow their new interstellar teleportation system, Threshold, to work. While Saturn Girl was conflicted, when they happened upon a massacre by the Credo, she replused them, saying the Progeny were under the Legion's protection. When the Credo, including a number of defectors, reported back to Singularity, he recognised the name.

He and the Credo continued until they captured a Legion team guarding R.J. Brande, who was acting as a United Planets Special Envoy to the Second Galaxy. Several Credo members followed M'Onel, the only escapee, back through the Threshold to Legion World, where they saw what appeared to be the Progenitor - Live Wire resurected in Element Lad's body - and fled back to report.

The rest of the active Legion confronted Singularity shortly after, but while Kid Quantum (Jazmin Cullen) confronted him personally, he made it clear he held the Legion in nothing but contempt, calling them "true Progeny" and saying that he - and the Credo - would not stop until they purged the Galaxy of "[their] taint." The Legion left soon after, on being apparently told that the captured Legionnaires and Brande would be returned if they handed over Live Wire. On being told, Live Wire volunteered to be handed over, and while this was rejected out of hand by Kid Quantum, he handed himself over anyway. Singularity immediately rescinded his terms and prepared to delete the "Progeny-spawn" at dawn.

However, Violet and Cosmic Boy had forseen Live Wire handing himself over, and arranged for the Espionage Squad to follow him. They freed Live Wire and the Second Galaxy team, then the rest of the Legion attacked the base from outside and proceeded to rout the Credo. Faced with defeat, Singularity decided to overload himself, preparing to explode and take the Legion with him - but Live Wire stopped this, trapping him in stasis with a layer of Silver Tromium. Defeated and shaken after being saved by the "Progenitor", the Credo would apparently disperse, although their later actions are unknown.
