Krypton was an inhabited planet. There are no other known inhabited planets in Krypton's star system.

Description

Krypton was a planet in a red sun system. If the inhabitants of Krypton are exposed to the radiation from a yellow sun, they gain abilities such as invulnerability, super-speed, x-ray vision, telescopic vision, super-breath, super-strength, and flight.

Millions of years ago, when science was outlawed on Krypton, a renegade group of scientists built a space ark to take them and some animals to Earth. After a tragic misunderstanding with colonists from Vruun, the animals became wild and killed all of the Kryptonian colonists, with their animals becoming the ancestors of some Earth dinosaurs.

The planet Krypton had an unstable core. Scientist Jor-El was not able to convince the ruling council of the danger, and nearly all the population perished when the planet exploded. Those that survived frequently made their way to Earth.

Kryptonians are deathly allergic to radiation from green kryptonite, which is a compound formed when Krypton exploded. The vast majority of the debris from Krypton is "green", but it also exists in other forms such as "red" (causes a one-time random but temporary change in a Kryptonian), "white" (kills plant life), "blue" (harmful to Bizarros as green K is to Kryptonians), and "gold" (removes the powers of a Kryptonian permanently).
