A Moment Here

Set shortly after the events of Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #125

President Leonard McCauley gives a speech in tribute at the unveiling of a statue to the Legionnaires lost in the Rift - in what would become known as Legion Memorial Plaza, in front of a large crowd including the surviving Legionnaires and Lori Morning - announcing the disbandment of the Legion of Super-Heroes "with full honours". He ends with a call to applaud the Legion, which the crowd duly does.

Cosmic Boy thanks the President for his "generous words," and McCauley says that, whatever his and the Legion's history, he wouldn't have wished their fate on anyone and will provide transit to any Legionnaire wanting to reach their homeworld or family. Cos thanks him, but says he thinks they just need "a moment here."

He goes over to see Spark, who is looking up at her brother and asks if she's okay. She forces out a "yes", and stutters that they don't know if Garth - or any of them - are actually dead. He manages to say "there's always hope" and they embrace sadly.

Ferro mocks Karate Kid for going to "find himself", but Val disarms him by saying he shouldn't knock it until he tries it, and invites him along. Ferro begins to reject it, then asks "really?"

Invisible Kid asks Apparition what she's going to do, and she's not sure, saying that she thinks she'll stay there, but her mother wants her to move in with her - which Lyle notes will be awkward when her baby is born. Shocking, she asks in a low voice how he found out, but he had just been observant and found it "obvious". As Triad talks with Lori Morning and her new adoptive mother in the background, she begs him not to tell anyone, at least until she's decided what to do, and he reluctantly agrees.

Magno, in full Science Police uniform, tells Kinetix and Shvaughn Erin about his decision to join up, and Kinetix abruptly decides to follow suit - leading Shvaughn, when asked, to tell her not to do anything hasty...

Sensor and Violet talk to each other about how lost and tongue-tied they feel, and Sensor says she's mad as well - are they just to give up? They were the Legion. Vi says they will be again, but Sensor says no, over the statue of Element Lad, things have changed so much they'll never be the same again...

Finally, M'Onel is approached by Mr Venge on a matter of "interplanetary security."

Later, in Legion HQ, everyone is packing up. Cosmic Boy makes an attempt at a rallying speech, but tails off, saying he just doesn't have one in him now. He begins to take off his flight ring and says that maybe they should just resign him, but Triad stops him, and puts on a holographic recording she'd recieved that morning which she thinks everyone should see.

It's from R.J. Brande, giving the rallying speech Cos couldn't. Apologising that he couldn't be there in person, he thanks them and tells him that, though "[his]... successor" may have disbanded the Legion, it would never go away, and ends by thanking them all for what they've been, what they've done... and what they've yet to be and do.

And one year later, the Outpost returns to UP space...
