Roger Stern (L* co-plotter/scripter) and KC Carlson (LSH/L*
editor) were the guests on America Online's Legionniares Chat for
Thursday, June 20, 1996.  Legion of Super-Heroes Chat is held
every Tuesday in the DC Comics Online area of AOL at 6:00 p.m.
EST.  Legionnaires Chat is held every Thursday in the same area
at 10:00 p.m. EST.  (Keyword:  DC CHAT.)  Regular guests include

KC wrote the Emerald Eye edition of "Watch This Space" that
appeared in books shipping June 19, 1996.

When asked if it was confusing having those initials around the
DC offices these days, KC pointed out that he had them first.

Roger politely declined to answer questions about Supergirl,
indicating that he doesn't like to talk about the character.

Roger reports that he would vote for Triad for Legion leader even
though she wouldn't want the position.  He thinks M'Onel would
make a good leader, but the position would tie the character down
too much.

KC hadn't had time to tally any of the Legion leader votes yet.

Roger thinks the Legionnaires will start wearing bell bottom
uniforms again after they go through their tie-dye outfit stage.

KC responded "Ewww. . ." when Dr. Mayavale was mentioned.

KC was not sure when Bouncing Boy was coming back.  He indicated
that Tenzil Kem is not joining the team.

KC thought Spark handled the lightning powers pretty well.  He
indicated that perhaps Garth should receive the light powers in
the postboot.  Later, he suggested that Star Boy might get the
light powers.

Roger indicated that if he had his way, there would only be five
Legionnaires.  He plans to use smaller squads of Legionnaires in
future stories with occasional crowd scenes.

Roger states that there won't be much relaxation coming up for
the Legion.  Maybe a panel here or there, but not complete
issues.

Andromeda is busy doing penance for her sins.  Roger indicates
that she was pardoned for her crimes, but not in her own mind.

The 20th century split was already planned when Roger came on
board the books.  Tom Peyer offered Roger the 20th century books,
but Roger declined because he gets to play with the 20th century
all the time.

KC indicates that he's still treating the two teams like they're
part of one big story for editing purposes.

KC indicated that including the Preview of LSH #85 in recent
preview packets had created a lot of promotion for the books.

If Roger was doing the 20th century stories, he'd like to have
the Legion team up with Superboy, Impulse, and the Teen Titans.

KC believes the 20th century Legionnaires will likely meet the
Justice League, and Roger thinks they'll meet a lot of people
during the FINAL NIGHT crossover.  They will "sort of" meet
Sovereign Seven.

Roger believes that SUPERMAN settles questions about whether
Superman has previously met the Legion.

The Legion of Super-Heroes will be meeting 20th century villains.
One of the villains that they will meet is Dr. Psycho, a Wonder
Woman villain.

Roger indicated that the 20th century Legion started in
Metropolis, but wouldn't say what happened after that.  KC
declined to say whether the Legionnaires remained together after
arriving in the 20th century.

Less than four members join because of the tryouts in L* #43.
However, a lot of characters will be introduced who don't make
the team.  Roger plotted a two page spread with a hundred
characters on it.

KC jokingly reports that all of the Brainiacs will be getting
slide rules in SHOWCASE '96 ## 11 & 12.  Roger indicates that
Brainiac 5 doesn't need a slide rule because he can do logarithms
in his head.  KC points out that Gates would need an abacus.

Invisible Kid will be playing a larger scientist role in the 30th
century while Brainiac 5 is gone.  Roger also points out that
Rond Vidar is there, too.

Roger points out that the LEGIONNAIRES ANNUAL is coming up,
probably in November.  It will be divided into three chapters
showing three future periods.  XS runs through all of them.  The
events will be far different from the Adventure-era Adult Legion
stories because the stories are set in the far future.  One
period is pre-Legion, one is 100th century and the other is
beyond time.  XS will meet a Silver Age hero and a Golden Age
hero.  KC points out that the annuals are not Elseworlds.

Roger let the fans attempt to guess the Golden Age character.
The character had not been seen outside WHO'S WHO in over 50
years.  He believed that Sheldon Mayer had a hand in creating the
character.  None of the attending fans got it right.
