KC Carlson was the guest for AOL's Legion chat hour on Tuesday, February 14,
1995. KC is a great guest and every contact I've had with him seems to
indicate that he's a great guy.
Take all of this for what it's worth. Anything in brackets represents
my editorial comments.
One of the pre-reboot Legionnaires is rejoining soon using his original
name. KC dropped a *strong* hint that it was Mon-El. Let me be clear. Not
Valor, Mon-El. (I was so unbelieving that I had to ask Sidne Ward to
confirm that's what KC meant with his hint.) No more details were given.[1]
Barry White joins the Legion in LSH #73. [What a bunch of pathetic people
we were going to that conference on Valentine's Day! Fortunately, it was
only 4:00 p.m. in Phoenix. I had all of the rest of the evening to
mope that I didn't have a date. :^) This is sarcasm, BTW.]
When asked about the possibility of a Duplicate Boy/Vi relationship, KC said
"Duplicate Boy isn't back in the new cont. yet. We've got other plans for Vi
..." When asked about the Vi/Ayla relationship he said, "What goes on
between Vi & Ayla will be between them. They'll share with us only when
they're ready. They are just kids, remember..." [In context, I don't think
he was confirming a relationship between the characters. Of course, he
wasn't denying it, either.]
He's a bit miffed that DC doesn't promote the LSH more.
Wildfire was left out of the reboot because they were going (mostly)
traditional. And Mark Waid doesn't care for the character. (Let's
have a brief moment of newsgroup silence on Mike Chary's behalf.)
The UP has its fingers in a lot of pies, and has all over the Legion
titles since the reboot in ways that we didn't suspect. More will be revealed
in about 2 months. [Is there anything that this group doesn't suspect? :^)]
They wanted to keep the membership stable for a while, but now the story has
dictated further changes. KC indicated that they're "all committed to
keeping the LSH an EVOLVING team-book concept." [Can you say Evolvo? I
knew that you could.]
Chris Renaud is the guest artist for LSH #67. That issue will be his first
professional work. (It is shipping on time this week.)
The LSH annual is a kind of mini "Who's Who". Some Impulse/XS connections
will be revealed therein. Also, new HQ blueprints are in there. They're
still working on the constitution.
There's been a temporary moritorium on the use of the Time Trapper, Glorith
and Mordru. The creative team thinks those villains were overused in 1994.
It didn't sound like there were any plans for Glorith at all. KC did like the
teenaged Glorith story from Valor. No Darkseid.
The Dominators are around, but not active right now. They're backing off of
the faceless, evil races for now.
Some fairly strong hints were dropped that either the White Triangle is either
tied to the Dark Circle or is its post-reboot replacement. [This may also tie
into the UP "conspiracy" mentioned above.]
Tom McCraw loves the Wanderers. They may see the light in a story soon.
KC likes the LSV. He particularly liked v3 #1-5.
Omnicom pages are apparently gone for good. "Right now we're trying to
explain everything IN THE stories -- not in text." KC did like Vi's
journal, though. It might be coming back. They'll still use the
Encyclopedia Galactica occaisionally. He also pointed out that Omnicom
pages require the sacrifice of either a story page or the lettercol.
Lettercols are coming back. He apologized that they've been gone so long.
No plans to explain Phase from R.E.B.E.L.S. '95 right now.
Brainiac 5 was used with permission of the Legion team by the creators of
"Guy Gardner: Warrior."
Quote: "OK, let me say this once more. THERE IS NO MORE KENT SHAKESPEARE.
Thank you."
[1] No, I'm not yanking your chains. I may be misinterpreting, though.
